Instagram’s Sensitive Content Control Feature

Instagram has introduced a new feature called “Sensitive Content Control” that empowers users to limit the appearance of sensitive content in their Explore feed. This feature aims to address posts that, while not violating Instagram’s rules, could potentially disturb some users due to their sexually suggestive or violent nature.

Understanding Sensitive Content on Instagram

Sensitive content on Instagram encompasses posts that may not breach community guidelines but could still be unsettling to certain individuals. Examples include sexually suggestive or violent content. While Instagram already provides a disclaimer for sensitive content, this new feature offers users the option to further reduce its visibility in their feeds.

Explore Feed and Sensitive Content

The Explore section on Instagram curates recommended posts based on users’ interests and interactions. This includes sensitive content related to the user’s Instagram activity.

By default, Instagram limits the amount of sensitive content displayed in the Explore section. However, users now have the ability to adjust this setting using the Sensitive Content Control feature.

Adjusting Content Visibility

Users are presented with three options to manage sensitive content visibility in their Explore feed:

1. Allow Sensitive Content: Users will see more photos and videos that could be considered upsetting or offensive.
2. Limit Sensitive Content (Default Setting): Only some sensitive content will be shown to users.
3. Limit Even More Sensitive Content: While not entirely eliminating sensitive content, this option significantly reduces its occurrence.

How to Use Sensitive Content Control

To access the Sensitive Content Control feature:

1. Navigate to your profile and tap the Settings menu.
2. Select “Account” from the options and then tap “Sensitive Content Control.”
3. Choose one of the three available options to adjust content visibility.

Availability and Age Restriction

This feature is now available to all Instagram users on both Android and iOS platforms. Additionally, Instagram has restricted access to this option for users aged 18 and above.
