Mike Pence’s Decision Not to Endorse Trump

Former Vice President Mike Pence announced that he would not endorse Donald Trump for president in the upcoming 2024 election, citing significant policy differences between them.

Pence made his stance clear during an interview with Fox News, stating that it should not be surprising given their contrasting views on various issues. He emphasized that these disparities extended beyond their differences regarding the events of January 6, where Pence’s constitutional duties clashed with Trump’s expectations.

One of the key areas of disagreement highlighted by Pence was Trump’s approach to fiscal responsibility, noting a departure from their shared commitment to addressing the national debt. Additionally, Pence expressed concerns about Trump’s evolving stance on matters such as the sanctity of human life and his inconsistent position on the social media app TikTok.

Regarding TikTok, Pence criticized Trump’s shifting stance, pointing out his initial consideration of banning the app, followed by expressions of support after legislative developments. Pence argued that Trump’s agenda diverged from the conservative principles they had championed during their tenure together, leading him to withhold his endorsement.

While Pence refrained from revealing his preferred candidate for the presidency, he categorically stated that he would not support President Joe Biden. This decision underscores the strained relationship between Trump and Pence, exacerbated by the events surrounding the Capitol riot, where rioters targeted Pence, and Trump subsequently defended them.
