The Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & SPA, conceived by Simone Micheli, unfolds a narrative that begins with a drop—a symbol of purity and vitality. This drop, embodied in the bronze sculpture “MU765G” by Kengiro Azuma, serves as a poignant reminder of life’s essence, encapsulated in the eternal cycle of water.

Architectural Revitalization

Cosimo Dell’Acqua undertook the comprehensive architectural and distributional restoration of the village, overseeing the transformation of not just individual buildings, but an entire complex comprising structures, pathways, caves, and reservoirs. Many areas were marred by neglect and debris, necessitating extensive clearing and restoration efforts.

Integrating Tradition with Modernity

The Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & SPA spans the ridge of Sasso Caveoso, reclaiming approximately 5000 square meters of space. The lower section, accessible from via B.-Buozzi, houses the reception, restaurant, breakfast room, meeting space, and wellness center. Architect Simone Micheli’s interior design vision brings fluidity and elegance to the space, with furnishings that appear to float effortlessly, imbuing each room with a sense of artistry.

Illuminating History

Excavated surfaces and vaults, meticulously cleansed of lichen and discoloration, now gleam in their original hues, illuminated from below to create captivating visual effects. The concept of “creating emotions” guided every design decision, nowhere more evident than in the wellness center—a subterranean sanctuary nestled within chambers dating back to the ninth century.

Reimagining Dining and Accommodation

The restaurant seamlessly transitions into the breakfast area and meeting space, offering a flexible environment tailored to various events and gatherings. Guest rooms, situated predominantly in the upper reaches of the structure, provide panoramic views of the Caveoso cliff and the ancient city. Some rooms, tucked within the earth, evoke the intimate shelters of Neolithic settlements, with subtle nods to the presence of water channels and cisterns.
