Kabuchin Penthouse: A Fusion of Functionality and Creativity
The Kabuchin Penthouse, designed by Idee architects, underwent a significant renovation to meet the evolving needs of the homeowner’s growing family. With soaring floor heights and an outdated layout, the apartment required a transformation that would cater to the family’s unique lifestyle.
Inspired Transformation
Drawing inspiration from the adventurous spirit of the Indiana Jones movies, the architect embarked on creating a distinctive living space that would accommodate the family’s dynamic needs. The focus was on providing ample play areas for the highly active children, mirroring the excitement of intense sports within the apartment itself. The goal was to minimize barriers between family members while fostering engagement and stimulation.
Innovative Design Elements
A key feature of the renovation involved elevating a large steel floor supported by wooden columns to create a mezzanine specifically for the children. This elevated space offered versatility, allowing it to adapt to various functions based on the users’ needs and imagination. Additionally, ancillary systems such as sanitation and storage were cleverly concealed within a large stone wall, creating a visually striking contrast reminiscent of a cave or forest.
Seamless Integration
The communal space was expanded by removing partitions, seamlessly merging indoor and outdoor areas to provide panoramic views of the surroundings. Ancillary functions were tucked away in recessed cabinets and hidden rooms within the stone walls, optimizing space utilization. Specific functions, such as showers, toilets, and storage, were organized into individual modules to enhance efficiency.
Embracing Creativity
The design ethos emphasized creativity, inspiration, and freedom, evident in the strategic use of hidden doors to introduce surprises and facilitate seamless transitions between spaces. This approach not only maximized functionality but also encouraged exploration and innovation within the apartment.
The Kabuchin Penthouse stands as a testament to the fusion of functionality and creativity, offering a dynamic living space that adapts to the ever-changing needs of its inhabitants.
