How to Use YouTube Picture-in-Picture (PiP) Mode on iOS
iPhone users can now enjoy the convenience of picture-in-picture (PiP) mode for YouTube. While it was confirmed earlier this year in June that PiP mode would be coming to iPhone users, there is no official release date yet. However, some iPhone users, specifically YouTube Premium subscribers, can already access this feature.
Accessing PiP Mode
If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber and want to try out the PiP mode on your iPhone, here’s how you can do it:
- Open YouTube’s Experimental Page: Visit youtube.com/new using a web browser on your iPhone.
- Find PiP Option: Scroll down on the page until you locate the section titled “Picture-in-picture on iOS.” Select the “Try it out” option.
- Sign In: You will be prompted to sign in to your YouTube account.
- Play a Video: Once signed in, play any video on YouTube.
- Swipe Up or Press Home Button: While the video is playing, swipe up from the bottom of the screen or press the home button to close the YouTube app. The video will then continue playing in a mini player.
Additional Features
YouTube’s PiP mode also offers background play, allowing the audio to continue playing even if you lock your iPhone. This functionality extends to YouTube Music as well, considering that background play is a premium feature available only to subscribers.
End Date for the Feature
The YouTube PiP mode on iOS page displays October 31, 2021, as the end date for this feature. This suggests that the official release might occur around that time.
By following these steps, YouTube Premium users can experience the convenience of PiP mode on their iPhones, enhancing their viewing experience with multitasking capabilities.
