Disguise LA is a creative workspace established as an extension of the London-based video and performance art technology company. Situated on the ground floor of an industrial warehouse in downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District, this workspace serves a dual purpose, blending functionality with creativity.

Fusion of Technology and Creativity

At the heart of Disguise LA lies its innovative technology—a real-time 3D stage simulator designed for live events. This cutting-edge platform integrates a timeline-based sequencer, a video playback engine, and a content mapper, empowering directors and performers to plan and execute events seamlessly. The space needed to be more than just a showcase; it needed to foster collaboration between creatives and technologists in a relaxed environment.

Designing for Collaboration

Understanding the diverse needs of artists, technologists, and producers, the design aimed to create a space that emulated a 3D visual artist’s paradise while maintaining the comfort of a living room. Flexible open spaces, including a separate conference room, were strategically incorporated, allowing for various activities and events. Custom-built elements such as a real-time mapping stage and a twenty-foot-long steel countertop encouraged collaboration and flexibility in usage.

Versatility and Adaptability

The final space serves as a dynamic hub for performance collaboration, visualization, training, and events. Its versatility allows it to seamlessly transition between different functions without the need for major structural changes. Custom elements, prefabricated off-site, were assembled on-site to optimize construction time and ensure efficient utilization of space.
