Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Guadalajara, the La Guiara Colomos Building stands as a testament to harmonizing nature with urban living. Designed by Trópico de Arquitectura and GONZALEZFRANCO Arquitectura, this architectural marvel is strategically positioned to capitalize on its surroundings, drawing inspiration from the Colomos forest and the Atemajac River.

Contextual Adaptation

The design ethos of La Guiara revolves around seamlessly blending with its natural context. Embracing a suitable scale, the building integrates open spaces that harmonize with the exterior environment, boasting expansive balconies and terraces that invite residents to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Diverse Programmatic Mix

A diverse program was meticulously curated to cater to varying lifestyle needs. Comprising 2 townhouses, 6 apartments (2 per level), and 3 studios (1 per level), the building offers a total of 11 units spread across 4 levels. Additionally, a fifth level features a common terrace, offering panoramic views of the urban forest and key landmarks of the city.

Materiality and Tone

The material palette of La Guiara reflects a serene monotonous tone, echoing the natural hues of Jal, the predominant limestone/sandstone in the region. Concrete structural elements dominate the exterior, complemented by the warmth of marble, stone cobblestones, and oak wood in the interior spaces.

Architectural Expression

An iconic feature of the building is the wall of rectangular lattices adorning the main entrance, imbuing the facade with character and charm. This distinctive element, coupled with an intervention by artist Francisco Ugarte, serves as a focal point, bridging the realms of local art and architecture.

A Synthesis of Art and Architecture

La Guiara Colomos Building transcends mere functionality to become a work of art in its own right. It celebrates the symbiotic relationship between man-made structures and the natural world, fostering a sense of connection and belonging within the urban landscape of Guadalajara.

As La Guiara Colomos Building stands as a beacon of architectural excellence, it exemplifies the potential of design to create spaces that not only enrich lives but also inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty of our surroundings.
